Having seven children - five of them boys - they love spending time outside getting muddy. However as the nights draw in and the weather becomes wetter and colder outside play has to be cut to a minimum most days. The problem with staying inside to play though means that the first choice is either watching television or playing on the play station. Not wanting to encourage too much 'couchpotatoism' in my children I have to keep lots of fun and entertaining ideas up my sleeve to entice them away ...

I will always have a clear picture of his face etched in my mind. As clear as a bright spring day in Geelong, the city in south eastern Australia where may father (Stan) and mother (Elsie) raised myself and my twelve brothers and sisters. Our home (lovingly referred to as '55') was the envy of hordes of friends we kids accumulated. '55' was always full of activity, it was the meeting place for the whole neighborhood and it was also full of genuine family love, largely because of Dad. I ...

It should be pretty obvious what biogenesis has to do with organic gardening. In fact, it's a central principle upon which organic gardening is built: a healthy, living soil produces healthy plants. If your soil doesn't contain dynamic, living organisms, it's, well, dead. This principle holds true whether your "garden" consists of a field of corn, a raised rose bed, containers of herbs, or a living room full or African violets. But there is great news! You can fix your soils fertility! The ...

This may be your first time sending flowers and you are not sure of how the process of delivering flower works, what the recipient will receive or if the flower delivery will arrive on time. You constantly check and double-check the online florist, and all of the shipments appear to take place close to the time you want your gift delivered. Although your questions have all been answered, you still need to know that the recipient, your mother, will not be getting dead or wilted flowers. Many of ...

Check out the weather forecast first. If the forecast is bad but you still want to go ahead just make sure there is an alternative place to hold your ...

Are you tired of standing in line to order a bouquet of flowers and then having to find the time to get back down to the flower shop to pick them up? Only to be disappointed that they did not turn out the way that you had pictured them in your head. Or even worse, having to run down to your local grocery store at the last minute to pick up a bouquet of day old flowers that have already been picked through earlier that morning? The answer may not be as difficult as it seems. Try ordering your ...

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! You're having a new baby! Now, on to the serious stuff. You're going to get yourself prepared for your new baby, mentally, physically and you will need to adjust your house and car for the new baby too! Mentally preparing for the new baby Remember this, women adjust to having a new baby faster than men; so, don't expect husbands to start being all fatherly after the pregnancy is announced. They're not like that. Women adjust better to the new baby, mentally, ...

My husband and I decided to give our children a real treat this Easter...A real live Easter Bunny! We made a trip to our local Agway store and, as we suspected, they had several baby bunnies for sale, along with fresh-hatched chicks and ducks. Thank heaven that Darlene, the lady working during our visit, knew a good bit about bunnies. She was able to quickly gather the essentials we needed to take our new family member home, before our 2 year-old harmed any of the little chicks that she ...

One of the things that recreational gardeners forget is to feed the various plants in their gardens. Springtime is the best time to start feeding your plants as the ground is still moist from the Spring thaw and from early Spring rain. This helps your garden feed permeate into the soil much more easily. As early Spring turns to late Spring the soil starts to warm up to create ideal growing conditions for your plants. As this time of year is when new life bursts forth from your garden it is very ...
